poem: a silly running belt

When I didn't run,
I laughed at runners while
secretly envying their
rolling gaits,
red, pained faces,
and silly running belts.
I laughed because they reminded me
of my growing waistline.
I laughed because they represented
self-discipline, commitment and focus.
I laughed because they reprimanded me
for dreams that remained only dreams.
So I took up running and bought myself
a silly running belt.
